Nandrolone by HPLC/ELSD
Application Notes
The anabolic steroids nandrolone, 19-norepiandrosterone, 19-noretiocholanone, and 19-norandrosterone were separated by HPLC/ELSD.
Anabolic Steroids- Nandrolone, Alltech Application Note 0035E, June 5, 2000.
Separation of the anabolic steroids nandrolone, 19-norepiandrosterone, 19-noretiocholanone, and 19-norandrosterone was achieved by reversed phase isocratic elution with acetonitile/water in around 6 minutes using an Adsorbosphere C18, 5µm, 250 x 4.6mm column (Part No. 287062). Detection was by evaporative light scattering using an Alltech 500 ELSD (Evaporative Light Scattering Detector).
In ELSD, the mobile phase is first evaporated. Solid particles remaining from the sample are then carried in the form of a mist into a cell where they are detected by a laser.
Key Analyte(s)
19-norandrosterone
19-norandrosterone is a naturally produced steroid and a metabolite of the anabolic steroid nandrolone. It is most often measured using HPLC.
19-norepiandrosterone
19-noretiocholanolone a metabolite of the anabolic steroid nandrolone is most frequently measured in urine of athletes tested for banned substances. It is most often measured using HPLC techniques such as LC/MS and GC/MS.
nandrolone
Nandrolone is a synthetic anabolic steroid prepared from 19-nortestosterone. It is most often measured using GC/MS and HPLC.
Equipment
Alltech Adsorbosphere Columns
Alltech Adsorbosphere® Columns are designed using high temperature bonding for exceptional surface coverage and stability for common applications. They are available in pore sizes from 60-90Å and come in four varieties.
Technique
HPLC High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC)is a technique for separating components in a sample on the basis of interactions between the component, a liquid mobile phase and a solid stationary phase.
