Equipment - Alltech HPLC Column Families and Formats

Alltech manufactures and supplies nine different families of HPLC columns and offers them in up to six different formats. The families and formats are briefly described here.

The formats are Analytical Columns (30 to 300mm lengths, 4.6mm i.d.) for common analysis, Rocket® Columns (33 or 53mm lengths, 3.0mm i.d.) for high-speed, high-resolution analysis, Solvent-Reducer columns (50 to 300mm lengths, 3.0mm i.d.) for reduced solvent usage, Capillary and LC/MS columns (50 to 300mm lengths, 150µm-2.1mm i.d.) compatible with LC/MS instrumentation, Expedite® MS Columns (10 and 20mm lengths, 2.1 and 4.6mm i.d.) high-speed low-volume columns for rapid resolution and high throughput with LC/MS instrumentation, and Prep columns (100 to 150mm lengths, 7-22mm i.d.) with high volume and mass loading capacity). In addition, All-Guard® cartridges (7.5mm length, 2.1, 3.0 or 4.6mm i.d.) disposable guard columns are supplied.

The Alltima HP family is the highest quality column family manufactured and sold by Alltech. These columns are made with high purity spherical silica to eliminate bleed and tailing, monomerically bonded and endcapped with an 80Å pore size. Several specialty phases are available including EPS for extended polar selectivity and HILIC for hydrophobic interaction. They are available in LC/MS, Expedite®, Rocket®, Solvent-Reducer, Analytical and Prep formats.

The Alltech Prevail family consists of reversed-phase and normal phase columns for use with 100% organic to 100% aqueous mobile phases, allowing separation of highly polar analytes in aqueous mobile phases and hydrophobic analytes in organic mobile phases. These columns are made with spherical silica, monomerically bonded and endcapped with a 110Å pore size. Specialty phases available are Carbohydrate ES and Organic Acid. They are available in LC/MS, Expedite®, Rocket®, Solvent-Reducer, Analytical and Prep formats.

The Alltech Alltima family are high quality general purpose columns. They are made with spherical silica, polymerically bonded and double endcapped for long lifetimes, with a 100Å pore size and a high carbon load. They show high resistance to harsh mobile phases and give sharp, symmetrical peaks even with strongly basic compounds. They are available in LC/MS, Expedite®, Rocket®, Solvent-Reducer, Analytical and Prep formats.

The Attech Apollo family are batch-tested lower cost columns for routine analyses. They are made with spherical silica and endcapped with 100Å pore sizes. They show broad pH stability and high efficiency and are available in Analytical and Prep formats.

The Alltech Prosphere family are a line of specialty packings for life science and proteomic applications. They are silica based (100Å and 300Å) or polymer based. The reversed-phase packings have low metal content and are base-deactivated for maximum recovery. Specialty packings are hydrophilic for high protein recoveries. Specialty phases are Affinity, Hydrophobic Interaction and 1.5µM ZAP! C18. They are available in LC/MS, Expedite®, Rocket®, Solvent-Reducer, Analytical and Prep formats.

The Alltech Platinum Columns are designed to separate mixtures that a strongly hydrophobic phase cannot. They are silica based (100Å) and are available in Standard Platinum for neutral and moderately polar compounds and Platinum EPS (Extended Polar Selectivity) for compounds with multiple polar groups. They are available in Rocket®, Solvent-Reducer, Analytical and Prep formats.

Alltech Adsorbosphere® Columns are designed using high temperature bonding for exceptional surface coverage and stability for common applications. They are available in pore sizes from 60-90Å and in Rocket® and Analytical formats.

Alltech Econosphere Columns are low-cost columns for common applications. They are available in 80Å pore size and in Rocket®, Analytical and Prep formats.

Alltech Macrosphere and Mixed-Mode Columns are designed to separate proteins and ionic species.
